The Butler Gallery presents contemporary art exhibitions and maintains a permanent collection of Irish artworks in a renovated 19th-century building at Evans' Home.
Founded in 1943 by George Pennefather, the gallery relocated from Kilkenny Castle's basement to its current location, preserving the heritage of Evans' Home almshouse.
The gallery houses a dedicated wing showcasing works by Irish artists Tony O'Malley and Jane O'Malley, representing significant contributions to national artistic heritage.
Visitors can explore the gallery Tuesday through Sunday, with extended hours on Thursdays until 20:00, and admission remains free for all attendees.
Archaeological excavations conducted since 2010 during the Evans' Home renovation revealed historical artifacts connecting the site to Kilkenny's past.
