Swiss Cottage, Cottage orné in Cahir, County Tipperary, Ireland
The Swiss Cottage exhibits a T-shaped layout with three bays at the front, wooden verandas on multiple sides, and an ornate thatched roof design.
Built around 1812 for Richard Butler, first Earl of Glengall, this cottage orné was designed by English Regency architect John Nash as part of the Cahir estate.
The interior rooms display original Dufour factory wallpapers, representing one of the earliest examples of commercially manufactured Parisian wallpaper in private residences.
The Office of Public Works maintains this national monument, which opens daily from March to October with guided tours available at regular intervals.
A hidden tunnel entrance in the cottage structure suggests its potential use as a secret meeting location for the Earl during the nineteenth century.
