Shemurat Ilanot, Nature reserve and arboretum in Central District, Israel.
Shemurat Ilanot is a nature reserve and arboretum spanning more than 130 hectares in Central Israel. Hundreds of tree and plant species grow here, connected by marked walking paths that guide visitors through the collections.
The site began as a research center in the 1950s to test how different tree species adapted to Israeli conditions. Scientists conducted experiments with hundreds of varieties to find which ones could thrive in the local climate.
The eastern section includes a therapeutic community named 'Trees' that assists young adults aged 18-24, including new immigrants, in drug rehabilitation programs.
The site is open daily from sunrise to sunset and is easily accessed via Highway 4. Free parking is available at the entrance with no admission fees required.
The reserve is home to rare Australian tree species that seldom grow outside their native regions. During spring, wild purple irises and tulips bloom abundantly across the grounds.
