Central District, Administrative district in Israel
The Central District covers 1,294 square kilometers and includes four sub-districts: Petah Tikva, Ramla, Sharon, and Rehovot, with Ramla serving as capital.
The district emerged from the administrative reorganization of Israel in 1953, replacing earlier divisions established during the British Mandate period.
The population of 2.1 million residents represents a mix of communities, with 88 percent Jewish residents and 8.2 percent Arab residents.
The district contains 22 cities, 18 local councils, and 12 regional councils, making it a major administrative region of Israel.
El Al Airlines maintains its corporate headquarters at Ben Gurion Airport within the Central District, connecting Israel to international destinations.
