Ramat Gan Safari, Safari park and zoological center in Ramat Gan, Israel
Ramat Gan Safari is a zoological center in Ramat Gan, Israel, that covers 250 acres and displays animals in large enclosures. Lions, giraffes and elephants move freely through areas designed with artificial lakes and open vegetation.
The park opened in 1974 and brought a new concept to Israel that combined traditional animal keeping with open safari areas. Over the following decades the facility expanded its sections and added programs to protect threatened species.
The name Safari reflects the original concept of recreating an African landscape in the center of the city. Families often visit on weekends when children can get close to the animals and learn more about how they live.
Visitors can drive through the park in their own vehicle or take an internal shuttle that runs for a small fee. It is advisable to come early in the morning or late afternoon when animals are more active and temperatures remain comfortable.
The center houses the largest animal collection in the Middle East and runs successful breeding programs for white rhinoceros and African elephants. Several elephant calves have been born here, showing the quality of care conditions.
