Ramat Gan, Metropolitan city in Tel Aviv District, Israel
Ramat Gan is a metropolitan city in the Tel Aviv District of Israel, spreading across the Israeli coastal plain. Multiple residential neighborhoods shape the cityscape, along with the Diamond Exchange District where modern office towers house international business headquarters.
Founded in 1921 as a farming settlement, the place initially grew as an agricultural community with rural character. By 1950 a rapid transformation took place toward a major urban center with around 60,000 inhabitants.
The Museum of Israeli Art displays around 800 works of contemporary art from the region within a historic building. Exhibitions address social themes and show artistic developments by Israeli creators across several decades.
Several public transport lines in the central area connect the city with Tel Aviv and other destinations in the region. The Diamond Exchange District sits near major routes and is easily reached by bus or taxi.
A quarter of the city area consists of green spaces, including the National Park with a lake. Metal sculptures by artist Menashe Kadishman shape parts of this park and create meeting points for visitors.
