Mahant Ghasidas Museum Raipur, Archaeological museum in Raipur, India
The Mahant Ghasidas Museum contains five galleries displaying archaeological finds, anthropological items, natural history specimens, inscriptions, and tribal artifacts from Chhattisgarh.
Founded in 1875 by Raja Mahant Ghasidas of Rajnandgaon, the museum moved to its current building in 1953 when Dr. Rajendra Prasad inaugurated the structure.
The galleries house collections of stone sculptures, copper plates, ancient coins, tribal tools, and handicrafts that represent the regional heritage of Chhattisgarh.
Located in central Raipur, the museum maintains regular visiting hours from morning to evening, with December through February offering the most comfortable temperatures for visits.
The museum preserves a wooden pillar from the second century BC discovered in Kirari, representing one of the earliest dated artifacts from this region.
