Jangalkanya Setu, Road bridge in Nayagram, Jhargram district, India.
Jangalkanya Setu is a road bridge that crosses the Subarnarekha River and links Nayagram to surrounding regions. The two-lane structure provides a direct route over the water and significantly reduces travel time between the riverbanks.
The bridge was announced in 2011 and completed in 2016 to solve years of problems with temporary crossings. These makeshift connections were unreliable during rainy seasons and regularly interrupted travel between communities.
The bridge connects two communities that were once separated by the river, enabling daily interaction between people on both sides. Residents use it as a natural part of their routine to reach work, school, and markets.
The bridge has no toll charges and serves commuters, school children, and commercial vehicles daily. During heavy rain, traffic may move slower, but the structure remains passable year-round.
At its opening, this was the longest structure of its kind in the state, making it a noteworthy engineering achievement of its time. The project required significant resources and technical expertise to build across the wide river.
