Amarda Road Airstrip

Amarda Road Airstrip is a former military flight facility in Mayurbhanj district with a concrete runway stretching approximately 2.5 kilometers in length on elevated terrain. The installation covers a large area and displays typical features of a twentieth-century airfield.

During World War II, the Royal Air Force built this airfield as a forward base against Japanese expansion and stationed multiple squadrons here. In 1944, two transport planes collided on the grounds, killing fourteen crew members and passengers.

The site holds meaning for those who remember the 1944 collision that claimed fourteen lives when two military transport planes crashed here. Today, visitors recognize it as a place where that tragedy is remembered.

The grounds are accessible, though visiting a former military site may require prior approval from authorities. Visitors should check on current conditions and access requirements, as development plans for civilian use are underway.

Several sealed bunkers from World War II remain unopened at the site, holding military equipment and ammunition from the 1940s. These closed structures offer a window into the place's wartime role and significance.
