Museo Teatrale alla Scala, Theater and music museum in Milan, Italy

Museo Teatrale alla Scala holds costumes, stage designs, paintings, sculptures, and musical instruments from performances at the neighboring opera house. The collection spans materials from different periods of the theater's long history.

The museum opened in 1913 after acquiring the Sambon collection and established itself as a keeper of opera heritage. It grew alongside the neighboring theater to document its artistic development.

The museum reflects the artistic traditions of Milan's opera world through its extensive collection of theatrical materials. Visitors can observe how costumes and stage designs shaped performances across different periods.

The museum is housed in Casa Ricordi and opens daily except on major Italian holidays. Checking hours ahead of your visit helps ensure you have enough time to explore the collections without rush.

Among the holdings is the Steinway grand piano that once belonged to Franz Liszt. The museum also displays a bust of singer Nicola Tacchinardi sculpted by Antonio Canova.
