Casino Ricordi, Museum building near Teatro alla Scala, Milan, Italy

Casino Ricordi is a palazzo built in Italian Neoclassical style next to Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Inside, a spacious square courtyard connects to a monumental staircase with balanced proportions and refined architectural elements.

The first Casino was built alongside the Nuovo Regio Ducal Teatro alla Scala to a design by Giuseppe Piermarini, serving the members of the Nobile Associazione dei Palchettisti during performances. In 1821 a new Casino was decided, with Giacomo Tazzini's project presented in 1824. From 1850 the building was rented to the publisher Ricordi, who kept its headquarters here until the Museo teatrale alla Scala was installed in 1913.

The building's name comes from the Casino della Nobile Associazione, later called dei Nobili, where box holders of the Teatro alla Scala held receptions and balls on performance evenings. From 1850 it was rented to the publisher Ricordi, whose sign above an arch still reads "RICORDI" at street level.

The building houses the Museo teatrale alla Scala, entered from Largo Ghiringhelli beside the theatre façade; the museum's own entrance is the one to look for, not the stage door. The arcaded ground floor of the main block forms a covered walkway along the street. The statue of Giulio Ricordi by Luigi Secchi, set in front of the building in November 2016, marks the spot.

The building's name comes from the Casinò dei Nobili, where box-holders of La Scala held receptions and balls. Since 1913 it has housed the Museo Teatrale alla Scala. In front stands Luigi Secchi's statue of Giulio Ricordi, commissioned in 1922 by friends and employees of Casa Ricordi and placed there in November 2016.
