The Teatro San Benedetto features a horseshoe-shaped auditorium designed by Pietro Checchia, with multiple levels of seating arranged in a traditional Italian style.
The theater opened its doors in 1755 under Michele Grimani's direction and later transformed into Cinema Rossini in 1937 with a new facade by Carlo Scarpa.
During the 18th century, the venue presented over 140 opera premieres, including Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri, establishing itself as Venice's primary opera seria location.

In 1782, the theater hosted an elaborate ball for Russian Prince Pavel Petrovich and his spouse, marking a significant diplomatic and social event.
