Santa Maria degli Angeli a Pizzofalcone, Baroque church in Pizzofalcone, Naples, Italy
Santa Maria degli Angeli a Pizzofalcone is a baroque church in Naples with a neoclassical main altar and multiple decorated side chapels. The interior displays artworks from renowned painters including Luca Giordano, Andrea Vaccaro, and Massimo Stanzione.
Construction began in 1587 under architect Francesco Grimaldi for the Theatine Order and was completed in 1610. This building project shaped the religious architecture of Naples during the baroque period.
The central nave and transept ceilings display frescoes depicting Scenes from the Life of the Virgin, created by Giovanni Battista Beinaschi between 1668 and 1675.
Plan time to explore the main hall and side chapels to view the artworks displayed on walls and within recesses. The interior layout is relatively open, making it easy to navigate through the different areas.
The wooden choir behind the altar features ornately framed mirrors and seats decorated with carved cherub details. These refined embellishments demonstrate the craftsmanship invested in the church's interior furnishings.
