Sardinia Radio Telescope, Radio telescope in San Basilio, Italy.

The Sardinia Radio Telescope features a primary mirror measuring 64 meters in diameter, constructed from 1008 aluminum panels at 600 meters elevation.

Construction of the telescope began in 2003 with foundation work completed in 2004, followed by its first light observation in August 2012.

The facility maintains an educational program for visitors, offering guided tours and demonstrations to introduce the public to radio astronomy principles.

Scientists can submit research proposals to utilize the telescope for radio astronomy, geodynamical studies, and space science investigations throughout the year.

The telescope surface contains 1100 mechanical actuators that continuously adjust the mirror panels to maintain optimal shape during observations.
