Monastero di San Filippo di Fragalà

The monastery features a square layout with monastic buildings along the north and south sides, centered around a large internal courtyard in Mount Castro.

Founded in 495 and reconstructed in 1090 by Abbot Gregory with support from Count Roger, the monastery underwent modifications under Byzantine, Arab, Norman, and Spanish rule.

The monastery contains marble doorways from 1613, decorated interiors with 16th-century majolica tiles, and 11th-century frescoes depicting biblical scenes.

The religious complex sits 3 kilometers from Frazzanò, accessible via the A20 Messina-Buonfornello highway or by train to Sant'Agata Militello station.

The monastery changed its dedication from Saint Nicholas of Myra to Saint Philip of Agira in 1131 under Roger II of Sicily's decree.
