Since its opening in 1982, the museum documents local marble extraction techniques through exhibits of industrial machinery and archaeological discoveries.
The museum maintains a collection of three hundred ten different marble specimens in its Marmoteca section, demonstrating the geological variety of the region.
The museum building, located on Viale XX Settembre between the historic center and sea, offers wheelchair accessibility and regularly scheduled guided tours.
Visitors can examine ancient Roman quarrying tools alongside modern industrial equipment, showing the evolution of marble extraction methods across two millennia.
