Abbey of San Martino in Campo

The Abbey of San Martino in Campo is a Romanesque church located in the Montalbano region. Its central apse features ten blind arches, and the walls incorporate stone fragments from medieval artisans.

This abbey was founded in 1057 by Benedictine monks and underwent major reconstruction in the 12th century following a structural collapse. This rebuilding shaped its current form.

The interior holds a 15th-century fresco showing Madonna Enthroned with Saints Anthony, Martin, Nicholas, and Lucia by a Tuscan painter. This artwork reflects the religious vision that shaped life at the abbey during that era.
