Pieve di San Leonardo, Medieval parish church in Artimino, Italy.

Pieve di San Leonardo is a Romanesque parish church in Carmignano featuring three naves and three apses characteristic of the style. The building has thick stone walls and underwent restoration in the 20th century to preserve its original structure.

The church first appeared in written records during the reign of Emperor Otto III in 998. It experienced significant expansion in the 12th century under Countess Matilda of Tuscany, when it took on much of its present form.

This church has been the spiritual center of the community for centuries, housing artworks that reflect its importance to local people. Villagers continue to use it for worship and ceremonies, making it an active gathering place for the parish.

The church is located at Piazza della Chiesa 5 in Carmignano and is easily accessible on foot from the village center. Visitors should dress respectfully and keep noise to a minimum, as services and local gatherings still take place regularly.

Fragments of Etruscan urns are built into the church walls and bell tower, suggesting that ancient religious activity took place at this location before the medieval period. These scattered remains show that this spot held spiritual significance for people across many centuries.
