Casino dei Nobili

Casino dei Nobili is a three-story palace featuring exposed stone blocks on its ground-floor portico and a balustraded terrace running along the entire front. The structure combines architectural elements from different periods within a classical palazzo design.

The palace opened in 1754 and incorporated existing structures including an 11th-century tower whose architectural traces remain visible today. Its original purpose as an aristocratic meeting place established its role in the city for decades to come.

The building functioned as a social hub where nobles and military officers gathered for meetings and formal events. This role shaped how the plaza was used and influenced local social life for generations.

The palace sits at Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi 9 in central Pisa, surrounded by restaurants and other historical sites within easy walking distance. Its central location makes it convenient to visit while exploring the old town.

After the Napoleonic period, the building transformed from a purely aristocratic venue into a club for the upper middle class. This shift reveals how political changes directly altered the structure of Pisan society.
