San Lino, Renaissance church in Volterra, Italy

San Lino is a Renaissance church in Volterra featuring a simple facade with a 1513 portal displaying geometric proportions typical of the period. The building contains a nave with an altar and side chapels decorated with paintings.

The church was built around 1480 near a Franciscan nunnery and was financed by theologian Raffaelo Maffei. A major expansion of the monastery followed in the 17th century, making it a larger complex.

The church takes its name from an early saint and displays artworks by local artists from the 17th century inside. Visitors can see paintings that tell religious stories and reflect the artistic traditions of the region.

The building is located in Volterra's historic center and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes to explore the town's cobbled streets.

A memorial bust of Raffaelo Maffei is located inside the church and documents his contribution to its founding. The bust was created by renowned Renaissance sculptors and shows the importance of this patron to the art world of that era.
