Monte Volturino

Monte Volturino is a mountain summit in the Southern Apennines that rises to approximately 1,800 meters and features steep slopes with extensive grasslands. The terrain shows the characteristic landscape of this mountain region, with varied topography across its slopes.

The mountain became an important natural landmark within the protected park area as regional conservation efforts expanded across Basilicata. These designations shaped how the landscape is managed and protected today.

Local shepherds maintain traditional grazing practices on Monte Volturino's slopes, continuing centuries-old agricultural methods in the region.

Hikers can reach the summit via routes starting from nearby villages, with some paths involving significant elevation gains. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential since the terrain is open and exposed throughout.

On clear days, visitors can see the coastlines of both nearby seas from the summit, making it a rare vantage point in the region. This distinctive feature results from its position between two coastal areas.
