Pusterla Beatrice, Medieval city gate in Milan, Italy

The Pusterla Beatrice features two pedestrian arches and a Romanesque tower constructed with solid stone blocks along the medieval walls of Milan.

Built in 1171, the gate underwent substantial restoration work in 1939 to remove centuries of modifications and return it to its original medieval appearance.

Three religious icons adorn the tabernacle above the arches, depicting Saint Ambrose, the patron saint of Milan, along with Saints Gervase and Protase.

Located at Via Carducci 41, the gate stands 50 meters from the Basilica di Sant'Ambrogio entrance and remains open for public viewing throughout the year.

During the 16th century Spanish rule, this secondary gate transformed into a prison as part of the modifications to Milan's fortification system.
