Oratory of St Thomas Aquinas, Baroque oratory on Via della Pergola, Florence, Italy
The Oratory of St Thomas Aquinas features a quadratura ceiling painted by Rinaldo Botti in 1710, depicting the Glory of St Thomas with contributions from multiple artists.
The oratory, completed in 1568 under architect Santi di Tito, initially served the Congregation of Noble Contemplatives before transitioning into a pilgrim hospice in the 1600s.
The interior houses an altarpiece by Santi di Tito portraying the Crucifixion and St Thomas Aquinas, while Carlo Ghibertoni created elaborate scagiole for the altar walls.
Located across from Santa Maria Nuova Hospital, the oratory maintains its original function as a prayer hall and currently holds regular religious services.
The vestibule contains distinctive quadratura frescoes executed in 1782 by artists Grix and Stagi, representing a late addition to the oratory's artistic elements.
