Parco regionale urbano di Aguzzano, Nature reserve in northeastern Rome, Italy.
Parco Regionale Urbano di Aguzzano is a nature reserve in northeastern Rome situated between Via Nomentana and Via Tiburtina. The roughly 52-hectare area is covered with diverse trees including plane trees and poplars, creating a green space within the urban landscape.
The area was already inhabited in ancient times, and the name comes from the former Auzano estate that belonged to the Roman family Acutia. Archaeological discoveries suggest the presence of a villa featuring decorative bath facilities.
Environmental education programs and guided tours highlight the geological features and regional ecology while promoting conservation awareness among visitors.
The park is easily accessible on foot and offers broad paths for walking through wooded and open areas. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when wildlife is more active.
The Fosso di San Basilio creek runs through the reserve, with willow-lined banks that provide habitat for amphibians, hedgehogs, and numerous birds. This waterway is crucial for local biodiversity and makes the park an important refuge for wildlife.
