Basilica of the Infant Jesus of Prague, Minor basilica and shrine in Arenzano, Italy.
The Basilica of the Infant Jesus of Prague is a minor basilica and shrine in Arenzano, Liguria, built in the Renaissance Revival style. Its marble facade features medallions, fluted pilasters, and bronze statues depicting the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph.
The first church on this site was built by Carmelite friars and inaugurated in 1908, making it the first shrine in Italy dedicated to the Infant Jesus of Prague. Pilgrim numbers grew steadily over the following decades, and the site was elevated to the rank of minor basilica by the Vatican.
Masses are celebrated in several languages, so visitors from different countries can follow the services in their own tongue. Around the altar, votive offerings and handwritten notes left by pilgrims give the interior a personal, lived-in feeling.
The grounds have parking areas, making it easy to arrive by car, and there is a restaurant and a souvenir shop on site. Groups should plan their visit outside the main pilgrimage seasons if they want to move around more freely.
Behind the sanctuary, a botanical garden planted with succulents connects through interior corridors and outdoor paths to a neighboring seminary. This area is little visited and rarely mentioned, but it is open to visitors and offers a quiet contrast to the main building.
