Santuario della Madonna del Bosco, Religious shrine in Novara, Italy
The Santuario della Madonna del Bosco stands at 159 meters elevation along the Agogna river, featuring a marble statue of the Virgin Mary surrounded by jasmine flowers.
In 1859, Edoardo Lenta carved an image of the Virgin Mary into an elm tree after escaping Austrian soldiers, leading to the sanctuary's construction between 1881 and 1887.
The sanctuary includes a garden with Stations of the Cross, photinia hedges, azaleas, and hydrangeas, representing the journey of Christ's Passion through natural elements.
Located at Corso Vercelli 110, the sanctuary opens from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM on weekdays, with extended hours during religious holidays.
In 1875, the sanctuary gained recognition when Cristina Bruneri recovered her eyesight at the site after being blind for two years.
