Santuario della Madonna della Rocca, Catholic shrine on Monte Arcano in Fondi, Italy
The sanctuary stands at 535 meters altitude on Monte Arcano, offering views over the plains of Fondi and Monte San Biagio within the Regional Natural Park.
The structure originated between the 9th and 10th centuries as a military fortress before transforming into a religious sanctuary during the 14th century.
The annual festival on July 2 includes liturgical celebrations, night pilgrimages from San Magno Monastery, and processions with the Madonna della Rocca statue.
Visitors can access the sanctuary every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours available through advance reservation at +39 349 1437240.
Writers Elsa Morante and Alberto Moravia found refuge near the sanctuary during wartime, incorporating the location into their literary works La Storia and La Ciociara.
