Santa Maria dell'Acquasanta Sanctuary

Santa Maria dell'Acquasanta Sanctuary is a Romanesque church in Marino featuring a neoclassical facade completed in 1819 by architect Matteo Lovatti. The interior contains a single nave with exposed peperino stone walls, a prominent cornice, and a window above the main altar displaying a crucifix.

The sanctuary received its consecration in the 13th century and acquired its current form through architectural work in the early 19th century. The site was connected to monastic and priestly communities over many centuries that shaped its character.

The sanctuary displays a marble statue of the Virgin and Child that has drawn pilgrims to this location for centuries. This devotional image remains central to how visitors experience the sacred space today.

The sanctuary sits near the Rio dei Boschi stream in a calm rural setting. Visitors can reach it easily and will find straightforward access to the building.

A two-story tower from the 16th century houses a bell cast in 1792 with ties to Calabrian priests who served here. This blend of architectural periods tells the story of how different communities remained connected to this place over time.
