Teatro Serpente Aureo, Historical theatre in Offida, Italy
The theatre features a horseshoe-shaped auditorium with three tiers of boxes, accommodating 300 to 500 spectators in a classical Italian layout.
Built in 1771 and renovated in 1862 by architect Pietro Maggi, the theatre replaced an earlier stage located in the town hall council chamber.
The ceiling displays frescoes of Apollo and the Muses by Alcide Allevi, surrounded by eight medallions depicting notable opera and drama composers.
Located at Largo della Musica 6, the theatre entrance sits under the town hall portico, leading to a foyer decorated with four Muse statues.
The theatre takes its name from a local legend about a golden snake, which remains depicted on an old stage curtain inside the building.
