Monte Maggiore

Monte Maggiore is a 1853-meter mountain summit that spans across Trentino and Veneto regions, featuring multiple hiking trails. These routes wind through forests and alpine meadows leading to a monumental cross at the peak.

The summit held strategic importance during military operations and once hosted a NATO base known as Base Tuono. This military past shaped the landscape and regional infrastructure.

The summit cross serves as a gathering place where hikers from both regions meet and exchange experiences, reflecting a deep mountain culture rooted in these communities.

The ascent starts at the Malga Zonta parking area at 1430 meters and follows marked trail 124 for approximately 7 kilometers total. The path is consistently marked but requires sturdy footwear and good fitness levels.

From the summit, visitors can view both the Brenta Dolomites and the Lagorai mountain chain, which span two Italian administrative regions. This vantage point offers a rare glimpse of two distinct mountain landscapes from a single location.
