Oasi di Orie Terme, Nature park in Amatrice, Italy
Oasi di Orie Terme is a nature park covering roughly 18 hectares along the Picente Road near Amatrice, featuring ancient chestnut and oak forests. The grounds contain natural springs, marked walking trails, and a chapel area with artistic elements.
The Orie Terme spring served as a vital water source for the local population across generations in the Amatrice region. The site later developed into a protected area with religious and cultural additions.
The Calvary chapel here features marble inscriptions combining texts from ancient religious songs and modern compositions, including verses by Italian songwriter Fabrizio De André.
The park is accessible through a wooden entrance gate on the Regional Picente Road, with marked trails leading through forest and past water features. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the paths are uneven and the terrain includes steep areas.
An ancient chestnut tree over a thousand years old with a circumference of about 9 meters stands in the Sacred Woods section. This colossal tree silently testifies to the long history of the place.
