Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto, Botanical gardens in Pallanza, Verbania, Italy.
Giardini Botanici Villa Taranto is a botanical garden on the shores of Lake Maggiore, spanning a large area with several kilometers of walking paths. The site includes greenhouses, flower arrangements, water features, and an extensive collection of plant species from various regions worldwide.
A Scottish captain created these gardens between 1931 and 1940, naming them after his ancestor who received an Italian noble title. The estate was later developed into a botanical garden and preserves this vision today.
The gardens attract plant enthusiasts and nature lovers who walk among flowers and exotic species while experiencing botanical diversity firsthand. The pathways pass by carefully arranged areas where plants from different climates grow side by side.
Visiting is best during the warmer months when most plants are in bloom and the paths are comfortable to walk. The grounds are easy to explore on foot, though sturdy footwear is recommended as some areas are hilly.
The Victorian greenhouse houses giant water lilies that bloom only at night beneath the stars, offering a rare natural spectacle. Additionally, the grounds hold one of Europe's largest dahlia collections with hundreds of different varieties.
