Sito palafitticolo Belvedere

Sito palafitticolo Belvedere is a Bronze Age archaeological site located near the southern shore of Lake Garda. Beneath the water lie approximately 1,200 wooden posts that protrude from the lake bottom and form part of an ancient settlement.

People occupied the site during two distinct periods between the 21st and 17th centuries BC, spanning the Early and Middle Bronze Age. These two phases of settlement demonstrate how communities adapted to living by the lake over several hundred years.

The pottery and household items discovered here reveal how people organized their daily lives around the water. These objects show us what mattered to them and how they managed their communities.

The site lies about 250 meters from the southern shore and is only visible or accessible in calm water conditions. Exploring it in detail requires scuba diving equipment or participation in organized archaeological visits.

Archaeologists found charred grains of emmer wheat at the site, revealing that residents practiced deliberate agriculture. This discovery shows that inhabitants were farming communities, not just hunters and gatherers.
