Musashimurayama, Urban municipality in western Tokyo, Japan
Musashimurayama is an urban municipality in western Tokyo with fourteen residential districts and natural areas along the tributaries of the Arakawa River. The settlement spreads across flat to gently rolling terrain with parks, fields, and low-rise housing.
The area was officially registered as Murayama village in 1917 and developed through agriculture and growing settlement. On November 3, 1970, it gained status as an independent city.
The name combines the characters for "warrior" and "village," recalling its former rural character. Today residential areas mix with green spaces, while some families continue to grow tea shrubs.
Public transport connects the residential areas with the center and surrounding towns in western Tokyo. The administrative center sits centrally and is reachable on foot or by local bus lines.
The area experiences mild temperatures in spring and autumn, while summer is humid and winter is clear. These conditions have supported local tea cultivation across generations.
