Ōsakikamijima, Island town in Toyota district, Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan
Ōsakikamijima is an island town located in the Seto Inland Sea between Hiroshima and Ehime prefectures, featuring coastal landscapes and rural terrain. The community spreads across gently rolling hills with scattered villages and agricultural lands throughout the area.
The town was formed in 2003 when three former communities named Ōsaki, Higashino, and Kinoe merged within Toyota district. This consolidation shaped the administrative structure of the island as it exists today.
Local festivals bring the community together at different times of the year. Fishing and citrus farming are central to how residents spend their days and what matters to them.
The island connects to nearby islands and mainland areas through regular ferry services to Ōsakishimojima, Ōmishima, Takehara on Honshu, and Imabari on Shikoku. Plan your visit around ferry schedules for smooth travel on and off the island.
The Hiroshima Global Academy opened in 2019 and teaches the International Baccalaureate curriculum. This development brought an international educational presence to the island community.
