Higashi-Mukōjima Station, railway station in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan
Higashi-Mukōjima Station is an elevated railway station in Sumida-ku, Tokyo, served by the Tobu Skytree Line. The tracks run on a raised viaduct above street level, giving the platforms a clear view over the surrounding low-rise neighborhood.
The station was opened in 1902 by the Tobu Railway, making it one of the older stops in eastern Tokyo. Over the course of the 20th century, the line was elevated onto a viaduct to ease traffic flow on the streets below.
The station sits in a low-key residential area and is easy to reach on foot from the surrounding streets. Elevators and stairs are both available to reach the raised platforms.
The station name combines the word for east with the old place name Mukōjima, which roughly translates to the far side of the river. This name recalls a time when this part of Sumida-ku was seen from across the Sumida River.
