Minami-Fukuoka Station, Railway junction in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka, Japan
Minami-Fukuoka Station is a railway station in Fukuoka featuring one side platform and two island platforms serving five tracks within a nine-story concrete structure. The facility operates as part of the JR Kyushu rail network serving thousands of passengers each day.
The station opened in 1890 under private management before coming under national railway control in 1907. It became a key transportation hub for the surrounding region.
The station building combines shops and offices on lower floors with residential apartments above, a common pattern in Japanese railway towns. This mixed-use design shapes how people move through and use the area around the station.
The station is easy to spot thanks to its distinctive nine-story building in the Minami-Fukuoka area. Inside, clear signage and organized access points make it straightforward to find platforms and navigate around the facility.
After a fire destroyed the original building in 1994, the station was completely rebuilt and reopened in July 1999 as a modern facility. This reconstruction gave it one of the newest designs among stations in the area.
