Matsuyamajōzan Ropeway

Matsuyamajōzan Ropeway is an aerial tramway in Matsuyama that connects the base station to Mount Katsuyama's summit, offering passengers views of the city and surrounding landscape below. The system carries visitors in spacious cabins between two stations on a short route from the city center upward.

The ropeway began operations in 1955 as a new way to make the mountain accessible to the public. Since then, it has remained a transport method that visitors regularly use to reach the summit.

The cabins reflect traditional Japanese transport design, bringing historical aesthetics into a modern visitor experience as people travel between the city below and the mountain above.

The journey is short and straightforward, making it suitable for visitors with limited time, and the cabins offer good views of the surroundings during the ride. It is advisable to visit during clear weather when the view is best.

The system was recently upgraded with modern cabins featuring larger windows to provide better views during the ride. These improvements show how the infrastructure is being renewed to better serve visitors.
