Dōgo Park, Urban park in Matsuyama, Japan
Dōgo Park is an elevated urban green space in Matsuyama with around 300 cherry trees, wide open lawns, walking paths, and an observation platform. From this vantage point, visitors can see across the Matsuyama plain and toward the Seto Inland Sea.
The site originated from the remains of Yuzuki Castle, a medieval fortification, with old moats and stone foundations still visible today. These remnants show where defensive structures once protected the location centuries ago.
During spring cherry blossom season from late March through early April, locals and visitors gather under the flowering trees for traditional hanami celebrations. People spread out on the green areas to picnic and spend time together, with the pink blooms becoming the focus of daily activity in this period.
The park is easy to reach, sitting just one minute walk from the Dogo-koen streetcar stop on the Iyotetsu Jonan Line. Entry is free, and the grounds include playgrounds, open areas for playing ball games, and numerous spots to sit and rest.
A stone fountainhead from the Nara Period physically connects this space to the nearby Dogo Onsen hot spring bath. This ancient water source reveals how the two locations have been linked since ancient times.
