Takagimachi Station, railway station in Matsushima, Miyagi, Japan
Takagimachi Station is a ground-level railway station in Matsushima, Japan, with one island platform and two tracks. The building is simple, with a ticket counter and a basic waiting area for passengers.
The station opened on April 10, 1928, serving local passengers and freight in the region. It was badly damaged in 2011 and reopened in 2015 as part of the JR East network.
The station name comes from the Takagi family, who once lived in this area. Most of the people passing through are locals using it for everyday trips rather than tourists heading to a destination.
The station is at ground level, which makes boarding and alighting straightforward for all travelers. Signs are mostly in Japanese with some English, so basic familiarity with the local script helps when navigating.
Despite its modest size, the station works as a junction point, which is rare for such a small community. This role became especially important after 2011, when working rail connections were needed to bring the area back to normal life.
