Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art

The Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art features a canary-yellow exterior made of local Shiogama stone and contains exhibition spaces filled with natural light through large windows.

The building operated as a community center from 1950 until its transformation into a museum in 2014, preserving elements of its original community functions within its current structure.

The museum commemorates oil painter Jun Sugimura, who settled in Shiogama after World War II and created numerous paintings depicting maritime themes and local port scenery.

Located ten minutes from Hon-Shiogama Station, the museum welcomes visitors Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an entrance fee of 200 yen for adults.

The museum's 9.7-meter-tall auditorium incorporates laminated timber frames and maintains dual functions as both an art gallery and an active community gathering space.
