Shiogama Sugimura Jun Museum of Art is an art and biographical museum in this port city featuring a striking canary-yellow exterior made from local stone. Inside, spacious exhibition rooms are filled with natural light from large windows that frame views while you move through the galleries.

The building served as a community center starting in 1950 before being transformed into a museum in 2014. This conversion preserved elements of its original communal purpose, linking the site's past with its present role.

The museum honors oil painter Jun Sugimura, who made his home in Shiogama after World War II and dedicated himself to depicting maritime life. Walking through the galleries, visitors encounter works capturing the local harbor and the rhythms of this coastal town as the artist saw them.
