Kuraki Park, Urban park in Yokohama, Japan
Kuraki Park is an urban park in Yokohama that covers two city wards and centers on a lake with walking paths around it. The grounds also hold a traditional Noh stage building and a small collection of historic tramway cars.
The park opened in 1973 and took its name from the old Kuraki district, chosen through a public vote. The Noh stage building had previously stood in Tokyo before being moved to this site.
The Noh stage in the northern part of the park was brought from Tokyo and now hosts traditional performances open to the public on certain dates. Watching a Noh play here, surrounded by trees, gives a very different impression than seeing one in a theater hall.
The park can be reached on foot from two nearby train stations and is also served by several bus lines. Spring and fall bring the most color, but the paths around the lake are worth a visit any time of year.
The tramway cars displayed in the park belonged to the Yokohama Municipal Tramway, which stopped running in 1972. They sit outdoors on the grounds and can be seen up close without entering any building.
