Maeda Forest Park, Forest park in Teine district, Sapporo, Japan.
Maeda Forest Park is a large forested protected area in Teine district featuring approximately half of its land as natural woodlands with established walking paths. A 600-meter canal runs through the site, lined with around 240 poplar trees that mark the main routes through the terrain.
The park began development in 1982 as part of Sapporo's Circular Greenbelt initiative and opened in 1987 after a decade of planning and construction. This project was part of a broader urban strategy to connect green spaces across the city.
The park blends European landscape design with Japanese woodland traditions through its long canal lined with poplar trees. This water channel guides visitors through the forest and creates a sense of purposeful movement through the natural space.
The park provides changing rooms near the administration building for visitors who want to prepare for specific activities. Winter visitors can access free sled rentals to enjoy snow activities throughout the season.
The site is divided into distinct forest zones named Furusato, Tsudoi, and Yacho, each supporting different wildlife and plant communities. This design allows visitors walking through the park to experience multiple ecological habitats in a single visit.
