Minami Chita Beach Land, Public aquarium in Mihama, Japan.
Minami Chita Beach Land is a public aquarium on the Chita Peninsula in Aichi Prefecture, combining marine exhibits with a small amusement park. The complex features different sections for sea life displays, shows with dolphins and sea lions, and a neighboring area with rides and attractions aimed at younger children.
The complex opened in 1980 as one of the first marine leisure centers in the Chūbu region, introducing a new entertainment concept. Over the following decades, the site expanded its offerings and adapted to the needs of families from Nagoya and surrounding areas.
The name refers to its location on the southern tip of the Chita Peninsula, where visitors explore displays featuring marine species from nearby Pacific waters. Families come for hands-on experiences that allow them to interact with animals and learn about ocean ecosystems up close.
The entrance sits near the parking area, and accessible paths link most of the buildings and outdoor sections. Visitors should plan several hours to experience both the aquarium zones and the rides.
Several times each day, trainers lead penguins on short walks through the complex, allowing guests to watch the waddling birds at arm's length. Some pools let children gently touch small fish and rays, making the visit more tangible.
