Wakayama City Museum

The Wakayama City Museum features exhibits that illustrate the development of the region from prehistoric times through modern reconstruction periods.

The museum opened its doors in November 1985 to mark four centuries since the construction of Wakayama Castle, displaying materials from the Kishū Tokugawa clan.

The permanent exhibition rooms contain more than 10,000 items, including Japanese traditional paintings, sculptures, and works by international artists like Pablo Picasso.

Located at 3-2 Minatohonmachi, the museum welcomes visitors from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with admission fees of 100 yen for adults and free entry for students.

The museum building, designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa, houses extensive collections related to the Kishū Domain from the Edo Period Tokugawa Shogunate.
