New Ishigaki Airport, Regional airport in Ishigaki, Japan
New Ishigaki Airport is an airport on the eastern coast of Ishigaki Island in southern Okinawa Prefecture. The terminal handles both domestic connections to Tokyo, Osaka and Naha, as well as international flights across the region.
The facility opened in January 2013 to replace an older airport with a shorter runway. The new construction enabled larger aircraft to land and expanded travel options for the island.
The facility incorporates local elements through its shops, offering regional products including Ishigaki salt and traditional Okinawan specialties.
Buses run several times per hour to central Ishigaki and take about 45 minutes to reach the harbor area. Tickets cost between 500 and 600 yen and can be purchased directly from the driver.
The terminal building houses its own police station to support traveler safety. Shops inside carry products such as Ishigaki salt and other regional specialties from Okinawa.
