坪野矿泉, Mineral spring in Uozu, Japan.
Tsubono Onsen is a cool mineral spring in Uozu that flows at around 18 degrees Celsius and feeds indoor and outdoor pools. The site sits on the edge of town and includes several bathing facilities plus a publicly accessible water collection point near an old hotel structure.
The spring was discovered in the early Meiji period after the Buddhist monk Gyoki carved a statue of Yakushi Nyorai and showed the way to the water. A hotel later rose on the site but ceased operating while the spring itself remains open to the public.
Locals collect drinking water at a natural spring point called Yakushi no Mizu, situated beside the former hotel building. Many residents bring their own containers to gather the mineral water for household use.
The site lies close to Route 67 and is easily reached by car, with parking available nearby. Visitors should note that the water remains relatively cool and is not heated to high bathing temperatures.
The water shows a high chloride content that sets it apart in taste from other springs in the region. In earlier times, the water was recommended for skin conditions and gynecological complaints, a tradition that lingers in local memory.
