Jizō-ji

The temple contains a statue of Jizō Bosatsu, known as Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, standing within the main hall constructed in 1977.

Emperor Shōmu oversaw the initial construction of Jizō-ji, which later endured fires during the Tenshō era and in 1974, though the main statue remained intact.

Designated as Temple 19 on the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage, this site participates in both the Awa Six Jizō pilgrimage and Awa Chichibu Kannon pilgrimage.

Pilgrims can find accommodation at the Jukokoju-an lodging facility, with a 54-minute walk from Temple 19 and a 3-hour trek to Temple 20.

Despite multiple fires throughout its history, including the Tenshō era destruction and 1974 incident, the principal statue of Jizō Bosatsu remained undamaged.
