大倉山公園

Okurayama Park is a municipal park situated on a hilltop, featuring approximately 150 plum trees across 20 different varieties spread throughout the grounds. The park includes the Okurayama Memorial Hall, a building that stands out for its distinctive architectural design.

The park began in 1931 when the Tokyo-Yokohama Electric Railway purchased land and established it under an initial name. It received its current name a few years later, marking a change in how the site was identified.

The Okurayama Memorial Hall, a former spiritual research facility donated to the city, shows an unusual blend of Greek temple columns with traditional Japanese wooden interiors. Walking through it offers a glimpse into how this place reflects both Western and Japanese design traditions.

The park is easily accessible on foot from the nearest train station. Since it sits on a slope, visitors should expect some uphill walking and wear appropriate footwear for the terrain.

A dedicated section of the park focuses entirely on plum trees that produce blossoms during spring, drawing crowds for seasonal viewings. Few visitors realize this section plays such an important role in local springtime traditions.
