Tenjinyama Castle

Tenjinyama Castle extends along a 500-meter ridge with steep cliffs, positioned strategically above the Yoshii River at 390 meters elevation.

The Uragami clan constructed this fortress in 1554, establishing it as their primary stronghold during their control of the Bizen province.

The castle incorporates traditional Japanese defensive architecture with multiple baileys, stone walls, earthworks, and a taiko drum tower for military communications.

The castle ruins require a 40-minute walk from the nearest train station, followed by an uphill trek through the mountainous terrain.

The castle grounds feature a deep V-shaped trench that separates the main bailey from the specialized horse bailey and south bailey sections.
